Sateri Sustainability Policy

(Updated May 2021)
Sateri’s business philosophy is to do what is “good for the Community, good for the Country, good for the Climate, good for the Customer, then only will it be good for the Company”. These ‘5Cs’ are deeply embedded in our culture and incorporated into all aspects of our decision making.

Our Sustainability Policy is aligned with the RGE Sustainability Framework and Sateri’s Vision 2030. Our commitments focus on creating long-term shared value for the environment and our stakeholders, and supporting of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through responsible sourcing, efficient and clean production, innovation and decarbonisation.

This Policy is supplemented by the Sateri Pulp Sourcing Policy.

Responsible Raw Material Sourcing

Sateri sources wood pulp from suppliers who commit to no deforestation and no exploitation.

All suppliers are expected to conform to our Sourcing Policy. They are encouraged to protect important ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and respect indigenous community rights. We require suppliers to assess, monitor and mitigate negative environmental and social impacts from their operations.

Best-in-Class Manufacturing

Sateri is committed to adopting best-in-class manufacturing practices. We strive to use the cleanest technology available when we build new manufacturing facilities, and upgrade existing or newly acquired ones.

We are committed to implementing the Zero Discharge Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Foundation’s manmade cellulose fibre guidelines, the European Union Best Available Techniques (EU-BAT) Guidelines, and Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM) Facility Social & Labor Module (FLSM) in all of our viscose mills.

Innovation and Circularity

Sateri supports scaling up circularity solutions in our business. We are committed to investing, researching and promoting innovations in closed-loop manufacturing, as well as the use of alternative cellulosic feedstock as a raw material in our production.

Sateri supports the global shift towards a low-carbon economy. We commit to a science-based approach to achieve carbon neutrality within own operations, supply chain, and at product level. Responsible sourcing and recycling of key raw materials, improving energy efficiency in our manufacturing plants, using alternative cellulosic feedstock, product innovation and emissions offsetting are the key areas of focus in our decarbonisation efforts.

Employee and Community Care

Sateri pledges to provide a decent, fair and safe working environment for our employees. We develop our employees through skills upgrading to enable upward career mobility.

We view ourselves as an important part of the communities that live around our operations. Through regular dialogues and a formal grievance channel, we engage with local communities to address their concerns about our operations. Our CSR programmes seek to empower, uplift livelihoods and improve their well-being.

Reporting and Transparency

Sateri commits to reporting on our progress regularly through annual sustainability reporting, dashboard and participation in global sustainability platforms and dialogues.
