Sateri Receives International Certification for Responsible Viscose Production for All Mills

Shanghai, China. 27 April 2018 – All of Sateri’s mill operations have been awarded the Sustainable Textile Production (STeP) certification for responsible manufacturing of viscose staple fibre, making Sateri the first amongst the leading global viscose staple fibre producers to have all of its mills certified to the rigorous standards set by independent Swiss-based certification organisation OEKO-TEX®. All of the company’s mills have also been awarded the highest ranking of level three in the STeP by OEKO-TEX® assessment scoring for exemplary implementation of best manufacturing practices.

Sateri also has STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certification that confirms its viscose is free from any harmful substances and complies with European standards. Together with its achievement of STeP by OEKO-TEX® certification, Sateri’s viscose products are qualified to carry the MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® product label, making Sateri the world’s first viscose producer to hold the highly coveted label for its high quality viscose. Viscose products bearing this label are not only regarded as safe and manufactured in environmentally-friendly, socially responsible and safe facilities, but also demonstrate a company’s commitment to higher levels of transparency and accountability through the product traceability feature of the label.

Sateri operates three mills in China which can collectively produce about 800,000 metric tons of viscose staple fibre per annum. With the recent certification of its two mills in the province of Jiangxi in April, all three of the company’s mills are now certified to the STeP by OEKO-TEX® standards. Sateri’s mill in the province of Fujian was awarded the certification in October last year.

The STeP by OEKO-TEX® certification comprises three different levels describing the extent to which a company has achieved sustainable production and working conditions. The areas of assessment include chemicals management, environmental performance, environmental management, social responsibility, quality management, as well as occupational health and safety.

Sateri Chief Operating Officer Allen Zhang said, “Our STeP by OEKO-TEX® certification achievement is a testament to our commitment for sustainable supply chain management, from responsible sourcing to responsible manufacturing. As one of the leading and largest producers of viscose staple fibre in our market, our role is not just limited to producing high quality products for our customers; it is equally important that we support them and their clients to achieve their sustainability aspirations, from field to fashion and hygiene products.”

Lead Auditor of TESTEX GROUP, the accredited certification body of OEKO-TEX® certifications, Adrian Meili, applauded Sateri for its performance and said, “Meeting all the stringent requirements of the STeP by OEKO-TEX® certification, particularly at the highest level (three), is a remarkable achievement. Sateri’s attainment of the certification serves as a good testimony to other viscose producers that it can be done if they have the will. We applaud Sateri’s courage for taking the lead on the less travelled path, and we congratulate them on their accomplishment.”
