Wastewater Discharge

Goal 2020: We aim to control Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) emission concentration to be within 50mg/L at each viscose mill. In 2018, Sateri (Jiangxi) COD emission concentration was at 34mg/L and Sateri (Jiujiang) was at 28mg/L. Sateri (Fujian) has not met the goal at 59 mg//L.

Note: We selected COD emission concentration as our goal parameter instead of absolute kg/tonne of product in order to align our numbers with national parameters.

Air Emissions (kg/tonne product)

Goal 2020: We aim to control Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) emission concentration from boilers to be within 35mg/m3 at each viscose mill. In 2018, Sateri (Fujian)’s emission concentration was at 24mg/m3, and Sateri (Jiujiang) phase 1 and 2 were at 20mg/m3 and 6mg/m3 respectively. Sateri (Jiangxi) has not met the goal, at 79mg/m3 concentration.

*The increase in 2018 data is mainly caused by mill expansions and newer production lines starting production, resulting in an increase in power consumption, thus the corresponding growth of GHG emission. Besides Sateri viscose mills, 2018 data also includes data from Shanghai office.

Health and Safety

Loss-Time due to Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) per 200,000 hours worked:

Goal 2020: We aim to have 40% reduction in the LTIFR per 200,000 hours worked compared to 2016. In 2018, the overall LTIFR of viscose mills was 0.2, representing 59% decrease compared to 2016 baseline and a 25% increase compared with 2017. 

Fatality

*In 2018 we experienced one fatality at Sateri Jiujiang mill when an employee was operating a machine. Following the tragic incident, Sateri Jiujiang carried out a series of rectification measures, including installing protective devices, reviewing the skills and knowledge of machine operators.
