Sateri’s Viscose Staple Fibre Achieves 100% Bio-based Certification from the United States Department of Agriculture

Shanghai, China, 11 April 2018 — Sateri, a leading global producer of high quality viscose staple fibre, has earned the Certified Bio-based Product Label by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for its viscose staple fibre range for textile and non-woven products. Verified by an accredited third-party body and strictly monitored by the USDA, the certification confirms that Sateri’s products are 100% bio-based, and their materials are sourced entirely from plant products.

Bio-based products are materials whose content is made in whole or in significant part from renewable agricultural, marine or forestry ingredients. Sateri’s viscose staple fibre is made from renewable wood cellulose. Natural and biodegradable, our products provide an alternative to conventional petroleum-derived products, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and consequently adverse impact on the environment.

“We are proud that Sateri is one of the first few producers in the viscose fibre industry to have our products formally recognised by the USDA,” said Ben Poon, Sateri’s Senior Vice President, Commercial. “This recognition underscores our commitment to produce viscose staple fibre in a sustainable manner, from responsible raw material sourcing to responsible product manufacturing, and help our customers and their clients to meet the market’s increasing preference for renewable and sustainable products.”

“We applaud Sateri for earning the USDA Certified Biobased Product label,” said Kate Lewis, USDA BioPreferred Programme. “Products from Sateri are contributing to an ever expanding marketplace that adds value to renewable agriculture commodities, creates jobs in rural communities, and decreases our reliance on petroleum.”

This most recent accolade adds another layer of accountability and integrity to the sustainability attributes of Sateri’s products, which have already been proven to be free from harmful substances and certified to the Swiss-based STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®.

Our products are also certified to the Swiss-based STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, which confirms that they are free from harmful substances and comply with European Union regulations. Most recently, we joined the Collaboration for Sustainable Development of Viscose (CV), an industry-led initiative that commits its members to responsible production of viscose.
